Model and Result Image Enhancements

A new GALENA 5.01 option that allows enhancement of analysis result images has been further enhanced in GALENA 6.0.

Show Projected Material Colours’ is available while analysis result images are displayed, and basically projects defined material colours from material profiles that are above the slope down onto the slope surface.

The GALENA 6.0 enhancements relate to the display of Material Colourbars, which are used to display colours for materials associated with Material Profiles - Material Colourbar height and intensity can now be changed during model definition, and while analysis results are displayed on-screen

The advantages for presentation and understanding are obvious, and are demonstrated in the following examples.

Example 1: The image below shows a simple model with one material profile entirely above the defined slope surface.  The advantage of defining the material profile in this way is that the slope surface can be re-defined (should the design change for any reason) without the need to re-define both the slope surface and material profiles.

Model as defined with one material profile

Once processed the analysis result image is displayed - with the ‘Show Projected Material Colours’ option turned OFF the result image would appear as that shown below (this is also how such models would have appeared prior to GALENA 5.01).

However, with the ‘Show Projected Material Colours’ option turned ON the result image would appear as that shown below, where the difference and presentation advantages are obvious.

Incidentally, this model shows a planar failure surface with an automatically generated tension crack, and a phreatic surface defined such that the slope is non-saturated and the tension crack is water-filled (below the phreatic surface level).

Example 2: The image below shows a more complex model that includes a material profile above the slope surface, another that cuts through the slope surface, and others below the slope surface.

The Material Colourbars option can be used to further enhance the image display by increasing the height and/or intensity of the colours associated with material profiles (shown as the graded colours below the material profiles on these images).

Model as defined with a number of material profiles

Once processed the analysis result image would appear as that shown below, with the ‘Show Projected Material Colours’ option turned ON (the default when GALENA is installed).
